Dawning Light
News Notes and Current Research

-Pain Management Trends--(reported in The New York Times, Dec 2000)
During the year 2000 the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, which accredits the majority of the country's medical facilities, developed new mandatory standards for the assessment and treatment of pain. This was the first time that any accrediting body had issued standards focusing on pain. The Times found that in response to the new standards the medical care system is turning increasingly to treatments beyond the usual path of medication, and many facilities are now incorporating alternative techniques such as massage, hypnosis, and relaxation techniques, including guided imagery and meditation. (In November 2000 Tom was invited to give a talk on alternative pain management techniques to the Washington Hospital School of Nursing).

--Your Beliefs Can Make You Sick--(reported in Spirituality & Health magazine, winter 2001 issue). A two-year study at Duke University Medical Center by H. G. Koenig, M.D. and Kenneth Pargament, Ph.D., found that if people feel alienated from God, feel unloved by God, or attribute illness to evil forces, they experience a substantially higher death rate than people with a more positive sense of connection to spirituality. The researchers speculate that "negative religious coping" may depress the immune system in addition to causing increased emotional stress, anxiety, and depression.

--Prayer and Healing--Numerous studies in recent years have documented that intercessory prayer has a measurable health effect on both the person being prayed for and the person who is praying (read Larry Dossey, M.D.'s book, Healing Words, or the studies described in the journal "Alternative Therapies," which Dossey edits). Now Herbert Benson, M.D., the famous author of The Relaxation Response, a landmark book which helped bring the benefits of meditation into mainstream consciousness, is turning his focus to the effects of prayer. Benson's Mind-Body Medical Institute at the Harvard Medical School has initiated an extensive research project on the therapeutic effects of prayer and he hopes to publish his results around the end of 2001 or early 2002.

Past Life Regression Hypnotherapy

A past life regression hypnosis session offers much more than simply satisfying curiosity ("Where was I when they invented the wheel?," etc.) because it can provide the recipient with substantial positive therapeutic effects. Many people who have been troubled by chronic illnesses, uncontrollable emotions or habits, or irrational fears, anxieties, phobias, or other neuroses have experienced amazing changes as a result of the insights received in past life regression. When a past life is uncovered which was the originating cause of the present life problem, the present problem is often immediately improved or even eliminated. For example, one person who had a long history of asthmatic breathing difficulties with accompanying panic attacks was hypnotized and described a lifetime in which he was trapped in a building during an earthquake. He was not killed immediately by the collapsing building but rather was pinned down and slowly crushed by the rubble, dying a slow and painful death by suffocation due to the weight pressing against his chest. When he emerged from the regression he was sure that this experience was the source of his asthma. He had had little success in getting relief through medical treatment, but after the hypnosis the asthma went into complete remission.

Past life regression has provided many instances of such healing. As a result, even some sceptical therapists who don't "believe" in past lives or reincarnation and think that the hypnotized mind is just making up a fictional metaphorical story will nonetheless use this therapy because they have seen that these "metaphors" have profound healing effects on their clients.

Years of studying the documentation and research into reincarnation has left me convinced that we do in fact have souls which survive death, reside for a time in a higher spiritual plane, and then return to the material plane in a new incarnation. The research indicates that when we are in that between-lives state we actually pick and choose many of our next-life situations and experiences in order to bring growth and balance to problem areas which we have created within ourselves in our past lives. Thus it makes sense that the main issues which we experience in our present lives may be rooted in past lives.
By tapping into the accumulated wisdom of your many lives, you can live a fuller life today and accelerate your personal growth.
Regression can:
--Learn the true origin of the problems which restrict your current life.
--Resolve these confining challenges, allowing movement to higher vistas in your spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical being.
--Find insight into your soul's purpose.
--Regain past skills and talents and bring them into their fullest use now.
--Discover new methods for constructively molding your future.
--Recognize soul mates and your spiritual connection with others.

Regression is a safe, natural, and proven method of accessing stored memories from past lives. Whether your goal is to improve your health, change negative life patterns, or simply to accelerate your spiritual insight and growth, past life regression hypnosis holds great promise.
